Top Design Trends of 2024, So Far

Kitchen with sage green cabinets and brass fixtures and hardware follows latest design trends

We are halfway through 2024 and thought it would be a good idea to do a round-up of some of the home design trends we have noticed.

Overall, homeowners want spaces with more character and vibrance than in years past, which has been a really fun change of pace! Let’s take a look at some of the top home design trends of 2024 so far.

Sage green

Bold jewel tones like emerald green have been popular for the last few years, but now we see a lot more sage green, especially in bathrooms and kitchens. This shade of green can create a fresh, invigorating feeling in your space and works well with many different décor styles.

If you want to be really daring, you could “color drench” your space with sage green. That means you will use the shade for everything from the wall color to the flooring and cabinetry if the space has cabinets.

Using different finishes of paint and tile will make this trend work and give the space texture. It isn’t for everyone, but if you’re brave, sage green color-drenched spaces can look amazing and unique.

Retro design trends

One of the most surprising trends is the return of all things retro. Fixtures you could imagine from your childhood home are now making a comeback. These new but old additions to your home will give you some character while giving you a little dose of nostalgia.

One of the more surprising places we’re seeing the retro trend is with glass bricks in the bathroom. These can be used to enclose a shower or for a window in an area requiring privacy.

Glass bricks pair surprisingly well with some of the more modern features of a bathroom, like marble vanities and honeycomb tile flooring – something to consider if you’re remodeling your bathroom.

Everything is smart

If you are renovating a home, consider finding smart technology to integrate into the design. The good news is that smart technology is getting more convenient, so even the most out-of-touch person should be able to figure out their new gadgets.

If you’re new to smart technology, we recommend looking for systems that can help you conserve energy. One option is to use a smart thermometer, which allows you to control the temperature of your home through an app, even when you are away from home.

Another is to install voice-activated lighting, which allows you to turn lights on and off with a simple voice command. These upgrades are easy and energy-efficient, which is always a good thing!

Flashy tiles

Goodbye, white subway tile—hello, big, flashy tile! Dramatic and bold tiles are among the most surprising items on the 2024 home design trend list, and we think we’ll be seeing a lot more of them. So, get used to oversized, handmade tile arranged in dramatic, unexpected patterns.

One place we love seeing this new trend is in the home’s entryway.

Welcoming your guests to your home with a bright geometric patterned tile will make the home immediately feel fun and interesting. Even if you prefer a more understated look, a bold tile can act as a focal point without being too loud, depending on what else you style with it.

What are your favorite home design trends of 2024? Are you a fan of the resurgence of bold, vibrant colors, or do you prefer the minimalist, eco-friendly materials that are becoming more popular? Perhaps you appreciate the blend of vintage and modern aesthetics that many designers are embracing. What do you think the next big design trends will be? Will smart home technology continue to evolve, or will we see a return to more traditional, handcrafted elements? We’d love to hear your thoughts and predictions!
