Introducing Model One in Harford County
We are excited to offer you this sneak peek into something extraordinary that is happening at T.W. Ellis Design/Build. Tim Ellis is collaborating with architect Michael P. Dolce, AIA to design a series of green model homes that will take residential construction to a higher level of performance in the Baltimore area. This project is the fulfillment of a mutual vision the two men have had for several years as they have been working together on residential remodeling projects.
A Shared Passion for Green Building
Both Tim and Mike have a passion for and commitment to green building. This is evidenced by the significant number of industry certifications they have earned in green building, as well as the award-winning green projects T.W. Ellis Design/Build has already completed. Now the two men are combining their tremendous knowledge, experience and resources to make energy-efficient and healthy homes easily available and affordable for residents in our area.
Model One Development and Details
The development of Model One of their green model home series is almost complete. The home has been designed to exude welcome and comfort with an open concept floor plan that fits perfectly with today’s lifestyle. The kitchen is a thoughtfully planned, functional space with a large island that seats four and a sizable pantry. A shared bathroom on the second floor is compartmentalized so one person may use the shower without disturbing someone else at the lavatory or toilet. Generous closet space is found throughout the home.
To ensure healthy interiors, the materials selected do not release micro-toxins into the air. This includes materials used for cabinets, paint, walls and floors. Unlike a typical “builder box”, the interior space includes unique detailing—such as ceiling designs that add style and dimension.
The building enclosure is heavily insulated and the envelope is tightly sealed so the home’s HVAC system runs very efficiently. The home will feature ENERGY STAR certified appliances and light fixtures, as well as WaterSense-labeled plumbing fixtures. Owning a home of this type will mean overall lower utility bills. Model One is being built to the Silver Level of the National Green Building Standard and ENERGY STAR which holds a builder to a much higher level of compliance than the Maryland Building Code in terms of lot development, resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and operation, maintenance and building owner education.
Designed with Flexibility in Mind
Model One has been designed with flexibility in mind. The open basement is specifically designed to be easy to finish at a later date, should the homeowner desire additional living space. Adding decks and screened rooms is facilitated by roof lines that were carefully planned ahead of time. The roof configuration will also allow installation of photovoltaic solar panels in the future.
Coming this Fall and Open for Tours
This fall T.W. Ellis will be completing construction of Model One at Grays Run Overlook in Harford County and the home will be open for tours. Several lots at Grays Run Overlook are currently available where this model may be built, but Model One may also be built on other lots if desired. Tim and Mike plan to increase their offerings in the near future by introducing two or three additional styles of green model homes in other locations. Contact T.W.
